Fix QuickBooks Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX – A Guide

Sometimes, the unrecoverable error can appear when you close the company file, and QuickBooks reopens any windows left open. This could be because you have a large report or several windows are set to open automatically, thus showing an unrecoverable error on startup. 

Here is how you can open QB with all the windows closed:

• Launch QB Desktop in the No Company Open window.
• Choose the company file, and DON’T select Open.
• Now, press and keep holding the ALT key when you choose Open. Don’t let go of the ALT key yet before the company file opens. When the QB asks for the password, let go of the ALT key and enter the password. Now, before selecting OK, press the ALT key and keep it held when you choose OK.

However, if this doesn’t resolve the QuickBooks unrecoverable error for you, proceed to the next solution.

The reason for the unrecoverable error might be a damaged user profile. To check this, let us log in to QuickBooks with a different user.

• Open the Company menu and choose Set Up Users and Passwords.
• Click on Set Up Users.

NOTE: If you use QuickBooks Enterprise, navigate to the Company menu, followed by Users, and then Set Up Users and Roles.

• Tap Add User…. 
• Now, enter the username and password for the new user.

NOTE: Don’t use the username that already exists.

• Choose Next.
• As per the requirement, customize the user and assign required roles.
• Choose Finish.
• Now, open the File menu and choose Close Company/Logoff.

Log in to QB company using the username and password you just created. However, if the unrecoverable error in QuickBooks Desktop persists, try signing with the admin profile. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next solution.

Another reason for an unrecoverable error could be a damaged QuickBooks file. However, fortunately, we have the QuickBooks File Doctor that can check the company file for issues and fix them automatically.

To run the File Doctor, you will need to install QuickBooks Tool Hub on your PC. 

• Once you have done that, open the Tool Hub.
• Go to the Company File Issues tab.
• Choose Run QuickBooks, File Doctor.

Give a minute or two for the File Doctor to be downloaded to your computer and start running automatically. However, if this doesn’t happen, you will need to open QuickBooks File Doctor manually.

To do so, launch the Start menu and type QuickBooks File Doctor in the search box. Select QuickBooks File Doctor from the search results you see, and it will open.

• When it opens, choose your company file from. If you can’t see the company file in the drop-down menu, click on Browse and Search and locate the file.
• Choose to Check your file and then select Continue.
• Type in the admin password and click on Next.

It might take a while, almost 15 to 20 minutes, for the scan to finish, depending on how large the company file is. When the scan finishes, don’t be concerned if you see the message stating the scan was unsuccessful. File Doctor often displays the message that the scan was unsuccessful, even if it resolved the issue.

Therefore, launch QuickBooks and resume operations. Check if the QuickBooks unrecoverable error you faced earlier is resolved.
